Procrastination - How To become more productive working from home

by Christopher Stigson

People working at home know that time is of the essence and cannot afford to sit around and procrastinate. Especially at home where there are thousands of distractions that prevent you from earning income from home. These are a couple of effective ideas on how to overcome procrastination while working from home, to increase productivity.

Begin your day early in the morning

If you are a family member, then this is especially important, because you'll realize that getting up earlier makes your mind free and it has enough time to get a schedule going. You can also work free from distracting kids or phone calls, which enables for more productivity. You are also rested in your mind and body from last nights sleep. Get organized, it's the key to productivity.

A daily or a weekly planner is a necessity to know the activities for the whole week. With this planner you cannot possibly miss a doctor's appointment or any other important meeting you plan to have due to a busy schedule in your daily life.

Prepare a daily checklist

It is not possible for a normal human being to remember so many things. Writing down important matters would help you get things done on time. As and when you complete each of the tasks for the day, you might cross them off your list. You would be able to focus on things you need to do instead of trying to remember what needs to be done. A checklist is also a great way to accomplish several tasks in a day.

Self-Motivate yourself

You could read a lot of books on this subject. You need to give yourself a motivational boost on and off to set your goals and accomplish them. Motivation slogans, A mission statement, cartoon pictures that remind you of your responsibility, etc. are all small things that could fuel your energy for the day.

Make use of Office Automations

We live in an internet oriented world now. Automation is easier than ever. It's easy to speed up tasks and let bots, robots and software do most of the work you usually do. Time is money and automating tasks definitely reduces your time spent and increases productivity as well as save time and energy. You should learn how to use the internet, web 2.0, chats, e-mail and thing like this to speed up your workprocess tenfold. And don't forget to rest.

You should try to get a break after about 2 hours of activity. Let it be 10-20 minutes, where you can spend time with family, read your e-mail or read your favorite magazine, just to relax. Remember to keep an eye on the goal and don't take too long rest, that will likely put you off and get you off-track.

Use these simply, but effective tips to get more done from home. Now you can't complain about not having any time to do things. People around you will start to ask where all this sudden productivity came from, since they knew you as a procrastinator before!

Motivating Yourself

Willpower - this is an essential factor in achieving success. Discouragement and lack of motivation may hinder you from reaching your objectives. You alone can devise techniques that will help keep the fire within. Get a clear picture of your purpose in life, use objects or pictures of the things you are aiming for. Stick a picture on the wall or on the desk, somewhere where you can see it easily. This will help keep you focused on on goals. If you write down your goals and steps for getting your goals , you are more likely achieve your goals , than those who just keep a memory.

Psychologically speaking, putting something in writing somehow makes it more powerful. In fact, certain cultures put premium in honoring contracts. In the contract, you may also include a certain reward that you receive once you have accomplished the task. After all, everyone likes to be rewarded for completing a good job. Keeping going can be difficult , as you may not have anyone to pat you on the back or say "well done". If that is the case think of your own motivation and rewards. Encourage yourself constantly , by giving yourself small rewards on the journey to success.

Abusive people lower your self-esteem and bring you down. Get these negative people out of your life. Surround yourself with positive people. Imitate their examples. Smile and think happy thoughts. Rather than wait for things to happen, try to be proactive and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Inactivity leads to idleness and stagnation. It hinders your potential to reach your goals. Reading motivational books are good tools to help you keep motivated. Read them ,learn from them and put into practice what you have learned. A good book could give you the push you need to keep going. Release Your Inner Winner - Overome Procrastination

What is holding you back from being successful? If you are like I used to be you will know of many reasons why you aren't successful at everything you do. It might be down to bad luck or the circumstances you are currently in. You may think it's something that's out of your control. Forget all the excuses it's down to conditioning. From the time you are born you are being conditioned to be unsuccessful and to regard money and success as something that's not necessarily good. How many times have you heard someone say "money is the root of all evil" or " It's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get to heaven"

Over time all these negative comments have had an effect on your subconscious making it increasingly harder for you to really believe in yourself and your ability to succeed. However it is still possible for you undo all the damage and start to perform to your full potential. I know this is possible because I've done it. I've managed to turn around my chosen career path and almost treble my income in the past 6 months. The surprising thing about this is that it didn't take me much work. I just sat back placed my headphones on and listened to Procrastination Blaster by Sean le May.

Don't let the name put you off the system that Sean has created doesn't only help you if you are prone to procrastination, it will also help you to attain your goals. With procrastination blaster there is nothing to do just sit back and relax and let the program do the work. The program is based on scientifically proven facts and makes use of the different types of brain waves.

By stimulating different types of brainwaves your subconscious takes aboard the positive messages that the program provides. The state that you are placed in is similar to those experienced by people who practice deep meditation. We will now have a look at the 4 different types of brain waves and at the various conscious states in which they exist Beta waves- normal waking consciousness-you are probably in "beta" right now. These are associated with concentrating, arousal, alertness and cognition.

Alpha waves slower than beta, experienced when you are absorbed in a good book or movie. They are associated with relaxation, super learning and increased focus When you are dreaming you are usually in a theta state. Theta Brainwaves are also responsible for some of those ahhh…thats it! moments and certain kinds of super learning. you'll also have greater memory ability.

Delta waves are even lower than theta and you'll experience these during dreamless sleep. These are associated with the release of chemicals that help with anti aging and also access to the subconscious mind. Now all that sounded a bit weird didn't it, however it is based on solid science. If you would like to know more please check out our review of procrastination blaster. You have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.

Causes Of Procrastination

There are many causes of procrastination but the main two seem to be either psychological or physiological problems that a person is suffering from. Below we will look a little more closely at these two causes and some others as well. 1 Generally speaking Psychological reasons can vary greatly but is is usually possible to categorize them as follows:-

Anxiety - People feel anxious when looking at tasks that they need to complete.

A low sense of self worth - Often these people do not feel that they have the abilities in order to complete any task or project that they have set themselves or that has been set by others.

Self Defeating Mentality - Such people feel that they are going to fail even before they commence the task or project.

For such people they may find that they will unconsciously over or underestimate the scale of the task in hand and this is when procrastination is likely to become a habit with them. 2. Physiological reasons for procrastination can usually be traced to the prefrontal cortex area of the brain. Among many useful tasks the P.F.C helps to filter out distractions that surround us and controls functions like planning.

Physiological Reasons for procrastination can be caused by damage to this are of the brain. A lower than normal level of activation may also lead to physiological procrastination. A classic symptom of this kind of procrastination is the inability to filter out distractions and a distinct lack of organisation. Others may procrastinate as they feel the work involved is too complicated and so the only way that a person can really deal with such a situation is as follows. They need to divide the task in hand up into smaller pieces and then perform each part one at a time, but they must provide themselves with a deadline for when they need to complete it by.

If you suffer from procrastination on a regular basis there are several things you can do. A visit to a doctor or therapist should be considered and psychiatrists have been know to have excellent results with procrastinators. You should also consider a program like procrastination blaster which in many cases to quickly tackle your procrastination.

Overcoming Procrastination

One of the main causes of Procrastination is people telling themselves that they must take action , that they need to do something now. By doing this they place themselves under pressure. This pressure in turn leads to resentment and the feeling that they are somehow being compelled to take action. The result of this is the brains defence mechanism kicks in and causes them to procrastinate even more. This circle of inactivity needs to be broken before you can start to beat procrastination. Step 1 in overcoming your procrastination is to restructure your thinking.

You have to realize that if you don't want to do something then you don't have to. Don't place yourself under pressure to complete a task. By putting off a task deliberatly you can then free yourself to undertake the tasks you want to do. Obviously you need to be aware of the possible consequences of your decision but even so you have now taken the first step to eliminating your procrastination.

Step 2 Is to look at your life as a whole and to realise that you don't procrastinate in every area of your life. This is exactly the same if you are a chronic procrastinator. Analyse the area's where you don't procrastinate, ask yourself why. The third and final step to beating your procrastination is to look at each task as a series of small steps. Don't let the task overwhelm you. Don't look atthe task and focus on the end product , this is sure to overwhelm you and trigger your procrastination instead look at the first step and aim to finish that. Don't ask yourself how can i finish this project/task.

Get into the habit of asking yourself, What small step can i do now to help get this project moving. By Starting your projects of tasks without worrying about how you are going to finish you will soon find that you are almost finished. Procrastination can be over come by changing your thinking and changing your outlook. By realising that you have a problem with procrastination you have taken the first step to overcoming procrastination. If you want to know more Click here to Read about Procrastination Blaster
